The 1985 season did not start normally for the Raiders who were used to domination. The team started 1-2 and in week 3 were blown out by the defending champion Patriots. Jim Plunkett was hurt.
They went to New England and dominated the patriots. The defense forced an amazing 3 tds. Int Returns by Sam Seale and Lester Hayes and a fumble recovery by Lyle Alzado (the only TD of Alzado’s career!).
Marc Wilson himself would get injured and was replaced by 6th round pick Rusty Hilger who went 1 for 7 but his only completion being a TD pass to Todd Christensen. Before being injured Wilson went 9 for 19 192 yards with two bombs to Dokie Williams who caught 2 passes for 93 yards and a TD. Marcus Allen ran 21 times for 98 yards and caught 3 passes for 30 yards in what would be a career year for him in 1985. The defense forced 4 turnovers and held Tony Eason to 13 for 36 200 yards and 3 ints.
1985 would represent the end of an Era for the Raiders in the next 40 years they would only win 12 games 3 times in a season again (1990, 2000, 2016) . However, on this Sunday they ended a long losing streak against the Patriots .
